BRITISH COLUMBIA: More human smuggling boats expected

Kim Lunman

Wednesday, November 3, 1999

VICTORIA -- Canadian authorities are still bracing for the arrival of more human-smuggling ships off the West Coast despite reports that two boats believed to be destined for British Columbia were intercepted off China's coast Sept. 6.

"We still expect more could arrive," Jim Redmond, Canada Immigration manager for Vancouver Island, said in an interview yesterday. "I don't believe this is a one-summer phenomenon."
