Fighting the anti-immigrant and refugee
backlash |
Ottawa - The Canadian Labour Congress and the Canadian Council
for Refugees are co-sponsoring a series of cross-country public
meetings to discuss refugee and immigration issues in Canada.
For the first time, labour and refugee service organizations
will raise several timely concerns such as: how to fight the
anti-immigrant and refugee backlash occurring in many regions of the
country; how to build links between workers' rights, refugee rights
and human rights; as well as union sponsorship of refugees,
particularly of trade unionists facing persecution.
The
first Forum on Refugee and Immigration Issues will take place in
Windsor on November 21st. During the next six months others will
take place in Toronto, Halifax, Montréal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon,
Calgary and Vancouver.
