VANCOUVER
(CKNW/AM980) -- The illegal Chinese migrants recently
deported from Canada are undergoing intensive
questioning back home.
An official with the Canadian Embassy in Beijing
says Chinese officials are in the process of "collecting
intelligence", trying to get the low-down on the
people-smugglers.
The people sent home now face a maximum of a
year's detention in China.
The Canadian government is trying to get the
Chinese media to pick up on the fact 90 people were
returned, but the story isn't considered very newsworthy
in China. Migrants get sent home all the time, usually
from the U.S. or Australia.
