Refugee advocacy group wants inquiry

VANCOUVER (CKNW/AM980) -- A refugee advocacy group is calling for an independent inquiry into the incarceration of last summer's boat people.

The group DARE, or Direct Action Against Refugee Exploitation, wants a public inquiry into the government policy of imprisoning Chinese refugee claimants.
DARE lists a number of human rights complaints lodged by refugee claimants and their advocates.

The group also fears the further deportation this week of migrants currently being housed in prison. It calls last week's secret removals outrageous, and describes immigration actions as being something from a police state.

DARE thinks the government should address the problems that refugee face while in jail, despite the illegal means they use to get to Canada.
