DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- A
federal sting on an alleged plot to smuggle illegal immigrants to
the United States from China broadened Wednesday with grand jurors
indicting six more defendants, bringing to 11 the number accused.
The government has said the plot from February through early this
month involved efforts to get illegal visas at Detroit Metropolitan
Airport in bids to sneak 425 illegal Asian immigrants into Michigan.
The indictments allege immigrant smuggling, conspiracy and bribery.
According to the indictments in the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service sting dubbed "Operation Squeeze Play," an
agent posing as an inspector provided fraudulent entry visas for six
Chinese nationals he let enter the country March 18, then 10 more
entry visas used March 30. .
The six new defendants are
Huang Xin Qin, Ren Huan Cui, Susan Cui, Hip Chow and his daughters
Ellis Chow and Jennifer Chow.
