Teen migrants missing
VANCOUVER
(CKNW/AM980) -- A number of Chinese teenagers who
arrived in Canada last summer among the hundreds that
were smuggled over have gone missing. Officials say that
up to 30 youths, mostly between the ages of 16 and 18,
have left the group homes in Vancouver and Victoria
where they had been staying. They believe most of them
have headed south to the U.S. While the provincial
Ministry of Children and Families says there's little it
can do to keep the teens from fleeing, there hasn't been
much of an effort to round them up. There are still 78
Chinese youths staying with their assigned group homes
and another 30 that have since turned 19-years-old and
have been left to live on their own. |
