B.C. police find escaped Chinese migrant
WebPosted Sun Jun 4 18:08:05 2000

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - A Chinese migrant who had escaped from custody on Vancouver Island was found Sunday after spending a night in the woods.

The man is one of seven who fled the Prince George Correctional Centre on Saturday. Air and ground searches continue for the other six.

All seven were working in the kitchen shortly before their escape. RCMP caught up to one of them less than half a kilometre from the medium-security facility. They say the man was cold and frightened.

The men are among hundreds of Chinese citizens who arrived off the B.C. coast last summer in delapidated boats.

Just over two weeks ago, another illegal migrant broke out of the same facility. He was captured a few hours later.
