Sunday, June 4, 2000 ONE DOWN, SIX TO GO
(Catherine Pope) -
RCMP have now captured one of the Chinese migrants who escaped
from the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre this weekend.
Police with tracking dogs spent the day searching the thick bush
around the prison after seven migrants fled the institution
Saturday afternoon. At one point a helicopter with infra-red
tracking was brought in to aid in the search. Late Sunday
afternoon, one of the migrants was spotted hiding in the woods and
taken into custody. That migrant says he doesn't know where the
other six are, but that they are somewhere in the woods. Police
are worried for the safety of the still missing migrants, as a
black bear with cubs has been spotted in the area. Corrections BC
is not commenting on how they managed to escape, but say there is
no indication snakeheads were involved. They will launch a probe
on Monday, and say they have tightened
security. |
